I wanted to see what my AMT file looks like, that is maintained by FTM2012. I do most of my research within FTM2012, but maintain the AMT for those times when I am "on the road" with my laptop or my iPad and the Ancestry APP.
This first test is to look at the Citation Issue that Randy raised. That is, Is my Citation Detail truncated in the AMT.
The red box, shows that this Citation was created in FTM2012 in the Template Format in FTM2012. It can not be changed nor edited online, but follows the Evidence Explained! Template form.
So that it can be read:
Detail
accessed: 17 May 2012; citing Kansas Historical Society; Topeka, KS; Kansas Volunteer Regiments and Batteries (1862-1868); Record Group: 034, Records of the Adjutant General's Office of the State of Kansas, 1856-1993; Record Group Unit Identifier: 190429;
I created a report, in FTM2012, that included the EndNote for that same Citation:
What is in yellow, is the Citation detail from within FTM2012. The amount of text in the Citation Detail took up too much space to show here, so the EndNote is above.
Here is what is says in the Citation Detail, again so that it can be read here:

Clearly, the last two lines, from "Subgroup: Wartime Records" to "Set Control Number: 00429" was NOT included in the AMT file.

I counted the number of characters in the AMT and the cut off was, as Randy suggested, 255 Characters.
On the Record, from Ancestry, the Source Information, from the website read:
Source Citation: Kansas Historical Society; Topeka, KS; Kansas Volunteer Regiments and Batteries (1862-1868); Record Group: 034, Records of the Adjutant General's Office of the State of Kansas, 1856-1993; Record Group Unit Identifier: 190429; Subgroup: Wartime Records (1861-1947); Series: Enlistment Papers (1862-1869, 1917-1918); Series Unit Identifier: 190429; Set Control Number: 00429.
Source Information:Just to be clear, the Reference Note in FTM2012 reads:
Ancestry.com. Kansas, Civil War Enlistment Papers, 1862, 1863, 1868 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2011.
Original data: Kansas Volunteer Regiments and Batteries (1862-1868). Bottom line: I think that I had duplicated Randy's observation on this Citation Issue and it has been reported, through feedback, to the developers at Ancestry.com.
